TIME article: 10 Things to Like About $4 Gas
Proof that every cloud has a silver lining, if you look hard enough.
(Note: Where I live in the NYC Metro area, gas is more like $5 a gallon) And I would add #11: Gas at $5 a gallon is still a whole lot cheaper than gas in Western Europe!
[this is good]
Amen. And also in the silver lining, there will be less CO2 emitted from the USA. SO our children have a better chance at tomorrow. Yay.
I LOVE the gas sign. Did you make that? DO you mind if I make my own as a tribute to Exxon?

I can't claim credit for the gas sign--someone sent it to me a while back, and I think it's public domain, so do feel free to propagate it for any and all worthy causes!

[this is good] Very good article. Thanks for sharing it. I've been biking to work or taking transit since fall 2007. I've definitely seen an improvement on my health just from that. I'm in canada, I don't know how bad sprawl is in America, but it's pretty crappy in Canada. We have a lot of folks fighting against having denser cities. Most who oppose are old and rich.

"Most who oppose are old and rich." Aren't they always?
And kudos to you for biking. I often think about doing it. I instead walk. I am a clumsy person, and tend to wreck on a bike. I wish I could be one of those sleek chic women biking about in a cotton dress, flowers and a baguette hanging out of my basket...I would wreck and my knickers would be showing for all the world, then they would know my secret...I wear string bikinis with childish patterns or sayings on them like "Team Pink" or with little yellow chickens printed on them. (and I rarely shave my bikini line)

The U.S. doesn't have a very good public transport infrastructure, with just a few exceptions. And sprawl was practically invented here. Interestingly, in my part of the country (NYC metro area), a lot of wealthy retirees are moving from their mansions and acreage to condos or townhomes in town. That's great because it revitalizes towns (although it causes what were once less desirable properties to increase in value beyond the range of many).

I've heard many excuses for not biking as transportation, but yours has got to be the most original. I'll have to remember to use it if anyone asks me. Although instead of the little yellow chickens mine will say the day of the week.

Well, I'm working in sustainable development. What that really means is I just follow the process. I'm not an engineer so my ideas are useless.
